The beginning of Autumn is the perfect time to make a few changes to your home, spurred on by the fact that you'll be spending a lot more time indoors for the next six months. This season, our new collection (launching next week!) is full of texture: rattan, cane and bamboo pieces that are designed to add warmth and interest to your home. If you're not sure where to start, or you only want to make one or two purchases this season, we've pulled together our top ten tips for how you can add a little texture to your home this Autumn. Textured dining chairs add interest to a simple wooden table
You don't have to invest in a complete new set of table and chairs to update your dining room this season. Add interest to a simple wooden table and bench by adding a couple of statement cane and rattan dining chairs. The mix-and-match look is very popular right now, so don't think that you need to invest in a whole new set of chairs - just make sure you get to sit at the head of the table!
Place a bamboo ladder in or outside your bathroom to hang towels
We love ladders! These simple pieces may look like they're all style over substance but they have so many uses around the home. Our current favourite use for a bamboo ladder is to artfully drape towels over one placed either in your bathroom or on your landing. Keep your dirty towels tucked away in the laundry basket - this is a place to display those beautiful cotton towels you picked up on your summer holiday.
Invest in a statement piece, such as a cane occasional chair
If you only buy one textured piece this season, go all out and make a statement. We love occasional chairs for their versatility. Place a beautifully-crafted cane, rattan or bamboo chair in your bedroom or in a little reading nook. Bring it into the lounge when you have company, or pull it up to the dining table when hosting a dinner party. This will be one of the most-used pieces in your home!
Embrace the trend for bamboo and rattan lamp shades
If you're looking for a more subtle way to introduce the trend for all things textured into your home, look to the ceiling! Dependent on your style, you can opt for a full rattan lamp shade or something a bit more subtle with cane paneling. If you want to add a few more textured accessories, a complementary table or floor lamp is also a great option.
Upgrade your laundry basket for a stylish rattan version
Even the most boring pieces in your home can look stylish. Update your tired old laundry basket for a beautiful rattan basket that you can easily pick up and carry to the washing machine. We think the bigger the better, and we also love a lid to keep things tidy.
Add interest to your dining table with textured place mats
If you only want to make a small commitment to the trend, textured place mats can instantly lift your dining table. A classic wooden table and simple ceramic dinnerware instantly look stylish when paired with textured mats.
Use baskets to pot your plants
A quick and easy way to add texture to your home is to pop some of your plant pots inside rattan baskets. Just make sure the neck of the basket is large enough to fit the pot, and pop a tray inside to collect drainage.
Invest in a piece of multi-functional furniture, like this cane bench
If you want to make an investment purchase, consider a practical piece of furniture such as a wooden bench that has a subtle, on-trend feature such as cane paneling. A bench like this won't go out of style and can be used in various places and functions around the house. We love placing a bench at the end of the bed, in a hallway or as alternative seating around the dining table.
Create a statement wall of textured mirrors
A mirror wall is a great way to add interest to your home - especially if you focus on using mirror with textured frames. A wall like this would look great in a hallway, above your bed or above the sofa. Choose a collection of mirrors that work well together and mix-and-match textures to add interest.
Create a cosy ambiance with wood and bamboo lanterns
As the night's draw in and the temperatures drop, you'll want to spend more time snuggled up indoors with candles lit. Placing a few lanterns around your living room can help to create a cost atmosphere, and we particularly love the range of textured wood and cane lanterns that are available this season.
