Autumn is almost here. The days are getting shorter and chillier, and summer is starting to feel like a distant memory. As we prepare to launch our new Autumn collection next week (there's a sneaky preview in the images used in this post!), we're starting to think of the small changes that we will be making to our homes to get them ready for the colder months. If you're hoping to make your home feel cosier this Autumn, read on - we're sharing five quick and easy ways that you can update your home for the new season.
Add texture
One of the easiest ways to make your home feel cosier is to add texture and update your textiles. Soft, light fabrics such as cotton and linen should be packed away until next Spring, bringing out warmer and thicker materials like wool, velvet and corduroy. Add cushions, sheepskins, blankets and throws to armchairs, sofas and beds to create cosy little nooks where you can nestle down with a book and a steaming cup of tea. Also try adding rugs on wooden floors to keep your feet toasty and replace light-weight curtains with thicker fabrics.
Soft ambient light
There's one very simple way to instantly make your home feel cosier - turn off the 'big' light and embrace a softer, warmer glow. A roaring fire, the flickering flames of candles and the subtle glow of table lamps all help to create a snug, cosy home. Do as the Danes do and embrace hygge with ambient lighting that sets the mood for cosy nights indoors. Light candles and place lanterns in the corners of your room to enhance the mood. Don't be scared to go over the top - lots of small sources of light is better than one bright bulb overhead.
Embrace warm colours
Welcome Autumn into your home by embracing a colour palette of rust, paprika, terracotta and warm shades of beige and pink. If you want to make a more permanent change, you could give your walls a lick of paint or update your sofa for a new model, but you can also add colour in more subtle ways. Introduce warm-hued accessories into your home, treat yourself to a new set of linen bed sheets or mix up your kitchen shelves with new tableware. You don't have to completely rethink the colour palette of your rooms - a new cushion and vase in a complementary hue to your existing colour scheme can instantly add a new element to a room.
Flower arrangements
Dried flowers and grasses are perfect for autumn, following a summer of fresh blooms in your home. Our new collection of dried grasses (launching next week!) showcases an array of Autumnal hues that will instantly evoke the new season. Arrange dried flowers and vases in vases - you can either arrange a bunch together or create your own Autumnal bouquet - or even try your hand at making a seasonal wreath to hang on the wall.
Prepare the fireplace
If you have a fireplace or wood burning stove, now is the time to prepare it for the coming months. Treat yourself to a stylish log basket and essential fireside tools (make sure to check out our new arrivals next week) and arrange candles and lanterns on your hearth and mantelpiece. Take the time to have your chimney swept, clean the fireplace and stock up on wood so you're ready to light your first fire of the season when the temperatures plummet.
